e ended up on the request for the daily bread, and now you are asking Me with the words: “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us’’. Children, the remission of sins, for which you ask Me, is conditional, depending on your offer of forgiveness. If I treated those words literally, it would be tantamount to the request: “Do not forgive us and keep the grudge, and if the opportunity arises, exact revenge”. Thus, by asking Me to forgive you as you are forgiving, you pass judgment upon yourselves.
The secret of forgiveness of sins is rightly related to the ability of sinners themselves to forgive trespasses, because you know well that with what measure you use, it will be measured to you. This is the justice about which you have been instructed. How few of you can forgive. They obtain forgiveness, yet the world does not forgive, does not forget, and passes judgment by itself. It does exactly what it is not allowed to do.
I would like you, when addressing Me in these words of the prayer “Our Father,” to wholeheartedly try to forgive everyone everything, mindful that you will also obtain My forgiveness to the measure of your forgiveness. If you forget, I will also forget. My forgiveness is perfect. May your forgiveness be equally perfect. To forgive – means to remove any mark, any grudge from the heart. Not reminiscing, not dwelling upon, and not desiring revenge. The desire for revenge is not only the ability to inflict harm upon someone for a perpetrated injustice, but also the satisfaction of defaming someone in front of a neighbor, of destroying his image, of repaying him by giving way to bad emotions. You are not allowed to enjoy someone’s misfortune by saying: “God punished him for my wrong”, but rather you should desire to come to the aid of anyone who suffers. The justice of God is an expression of love, not hate. At its root is love, despite the punishment. If you expect magnanimity from Me, be yourselves magnanimous. If you expect mercy – be merciful, and you will attain grace. I do not forget the good. I want to forget the evil.
However, also remember that your request for the forgiveness of your sins is a request for grace, and not an act of forgiveness. To obtain forgiveness, you need to confess your sins in the sacrament of penance with the help of the grace that I give you. If you did not need this sacrament, I would not have established it. When having recourse to it, your heart should be free of resentment; and if it is not the case, at least desire to forgive and I will accept this desire and help you. I can heal any injury and remove the deepest grudges. I see your souls and I know them all by name, I know the history of their falls and of their suffering. Only open your hearts before Me, so I may enter them, and I will find all your wounds and heal them. I ask you for trust.
It is worthwhile to forgive. At every step, offer Me your acts of forgiveness. Forgive one another; forgive your relatives, parents, grandparents. Forgive your governments, presidents, dictators. Forgive to nations, groups and sects. Forgive everyone. Forgiveness cuts off the bonds of hatred, the deadly thread entwining the minds of mankind. No sin exists alone in isolation, but always encumbers the entire mankind. Thus, forgive to the entire mankind and ask Me to forgive it as well.
And at the end – forgive yourselves. When you have recourse to the sacrament of penance, reproach yourselves all your sins. But after, forgive them to yourselves and resolve to improve. You also have to show compassion to yourselves in order to forgive. If you will be able to forgive yourselves, you will also be able to love.
