1. Stages of the path of God: denudation of the soul

Lord Jesus: … Discouragement is a trap into which the soul falls, trying to understand why she has been forsaken and not being able to get a grip of her helplessness. God allows the soul into this state so that she may recognize that everything that she has been doing at the beginning, in the first stage of her journey, was not the result of her piety, but of the grace of God, thanks to which she felt joy while doing good, what again gave her strength for further efforts. However now, when the soul has been deprived of consolations and comprehension of the designs of her Creator, all that is left to her is the faith that God is staring at her and will not allow her to perish.
